SHAKESPEARE BIOGRAPHY
William Shakespeare, born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, was considered one of the greatest playwrights in English literature. He was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. In 1582, he married Anne Hathaway and had three children. In the early 1590s, he moved to London, where he excelled as an actor and playwright and became a shareholder in the theatrical company Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men. He wrote approximately 39 plays, 154 sonnets, and several poems, including tragedies like Hamlet and Macbeth, comedies.
William Shakespeare's play Hamlet is a tragedy that delves into deep themes such as revenge, madness, betrayal, and morality. The plot follows Prince Hamlet of Denmark, who is devastated by the death of his father, King Hamlet. The play begins when the ghost of the deceased king appears to Hamlet and reveals that he was murdered by his brother Claudius, Hamlet's uncle, who has usurped the throne and married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude.
Driven by the desire to avenge his father's death, Hamlet faces a moral and psychological dilemma, pretending to be mad to investigate the truth and plan his revenge. Throughout the play, Hamlet reflects on the nature of existence, the morality of murder, and the inevitability of death, culminating in the famous soliloquy "To be or not to be."
