SHAKESPEARE BIOGRAPHY William Shakespeare, born in April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, was considered one of the greatest playwrights in English literature. He was the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. In 1582, he married Anne Hathaway and had three children.
